HPS Lighting

When using indoor hydroponics to grow and cultivate plants it is necessary to recreate the outdoor sun, temperature and environment. High Pressure Sodium bulbs are extremely efficient in reproducing the suns rays. High Pressure Sodium lamps are very efficient in creating red and yellow pieces of the spectrum. HPS Lights are low in the blue parts of the spectrum. By having the light set up in this manner, the recreation on the fall sun is put into action. Different plants react differently to HPS lighting. However, for plants that fruit and bud in the fall, High Pressure Sodium Lighting is the right lighting to prompt and promote the fruiting or budding stage of plant growth. There are HPS Bulbs that specifically designed for indoor gardening. These lamps have a greater balance of the color spectrum. High Pressure Sodium lamps contain sodium, mercury, and xenon gas within a translucent ceramic arc tube. All of this is held within the glass that we commonly refer to as the “Bulb”. HPS Bulbs are available in different wattages, but there are certain wattages that are specifically recommended for indoor glowing of plant life. The 250-Watt, 400-Watt, 600-Watt, and the 1000-Watt are ideal for you indoor hydroponic garden. High Pressure Sodium Bulbs will slowly loose strength over time. Brightness will deplete and eventually the bulb will need to be replaced. It is important to monitor you HPS Lamps and make sure the bulb(s) are replaced before the end of their rated life. If you change you HPS Bulbs after 20 months or so you should be fine.
